What & Where is it?
Ohakune is a national and international tourist destination in the heart of the Ruapehu Region and the Ohakune Carrot Carnival takes place during our busy spring ski season.
Ohakune Carrot Carnival is a community event celebrating all that is Ruapehu, while promoting our great adventure playground and outdoor activities, our focus is on active participation from all areas of our community.
A free street carnival full of stalls, competitions, sponsors' displays, street entertainment, activities and family fun.
The Ohakune Carrot Carnival is an event that has become known nationally and internationally that has traditionally attracted between 3000 and 4000 people every year.
The new date this year, 3rd October 2009, is expected to attract up to 12,000 people. It's a busy time of year during the spring school holidays and with all that activity in town the Carrot Carnival will capture and promote the spirit of Ruapehu for
all our visitors to enjoy.
On an average school holiday weekend in the ski season
Ohakune has nearly 12000 people in the area! The new date has been scheduled to capitalise on this captive audience in addition to those who travel into Ohakune just for the event.
From this year we plan to highlight the fantastic outdoor recreational activities, facilities and hospitality on offer in the Ruapehu area for spring and summer visitors.
There is adventure to be had here, from Taupo to Wanganui and some excellent accommodation and hospitality to suit every traveller.
Education
Carrot Carnival activities and competitions encourage participation from all in the community to be physically and creatively active and involved. We encourage all who attend and participate to get out and about in their community, discover what's on offer in this region and promote healthy lifestyles by enjoying our great outdoor playground.
